Corrosion rate vs concentration for hydrochloric, sulfuric, phosphoric, acetic acids etc.
Corrosion rate vs concentration for hydrochloric, sulfuric, phosphoric, acetic acids etc.
(OP)
Hi,
I am interested in the derusting of rusty automotive parts using "household" acids readily available everywhere.
1. I am interested in graphs/tables representing the corrosion rate (mm pr year or similar) vs acid concentration (%) of
simultanously in the same acidic environment. This is to understand how much faster rust is removed from the surface compared to the base metal itsel (mild steel). Ideally I would like to see a graph where both "mild steel" and "rust" is plotted at the same time. This is to understand the ideal strength of the solution.
2. I am interested in data for:
Is it possible to find such data, ideally where everything has been tested by the same team to ensure the same lab conditions?
Thanks,
Lucas

I personally like the Bullfrog products, they the retail version made by a major manufacturer of corrosion inhibitors.

Some are based on vinegar, I prefer ones using citric, oxalic, boric, or phosphoric acids.
Dilute (5%) and slightly warmed usually does the job.
