Are there any references that give ideas of paint systems to use with structural steel that is exposed to different environment types? I have a very small project next to a wastewater treatment plant and corrosion is a concern due to the gases.

I'm looking for something that specifies the surface preparation, paint system, and thickness. I know it will vary by manufacturer but I'm just looking for a general guidance document of when you have a certain circumstance you should consider these parameters.

Look up the UFGS 09 97 13.27 specification. It is a free pdf download, and should have what you are looking for.

SSPC all the way. They have several procedural documents that you will need to specify for prep, etc. They also have great information for painting galvanized steel, which won't hold paint unless the galvanizer knows to alter his quenching process.

Thanks for the great info!
