Robotic welding engineer career path advice

Robotic welding engineer career path advice

Robotic welding engineer career path advice

(OP)
Hello all

I am a confused and hope you can advice me and shar your opinion on my conflict.

I have been offered a job of a laser welding technologist in a small family company, basically my duty will be to determine the right welding parameters, program the robots and perform quality assurance for the party, because it is a small company it is likely that i wont be able to advance to a more advanced position without leaving this company.

I am afraid that getting knolleg only in the field of robotic laser welding will harm my ability to find a more advanced positions dou to lack of wide engineering knowledge.

Is there any sense in my doubts?

Thanks in advance
Jenia.

Some. Specialising early on does restrict you later, on the other hand it gives you a chance to build up deep expertise, and confidence, that a jack of all trades will lack. It didn't do me any harm. 'Technologist' is, however, a loaded word, you need to get an engineer title to look good on your resume.

Cheers

RE: Robotic welding engineer career path advice

Seems like a good opportunity to become an expert in robotic welding parameters, which can help with positions that use robotic welding in other fields. There may be no long-term growth with this small company (but it's not unheard of, especially if they grow), but it sounds like there is a lot to learn and play with in the short term (I'm still speaking in terms of years here).

I think that this is a very interesting field of work and study but alas it is very concentrated and it might be very hard later to find a job in this field or any similar filed

RE: Robotic welding engineer career path advice

In a small company it is very likely you will be working on much more than advertised...

It may be specialized, but those skills are transferable and a very good cornerstone to build a career on.

RE: Robotic welding engineer career path advice

My advice to you is this.

Take the job if:
1. You are genuinely interested in the technology, will learn something new, and want to do the work.
2. It is a financial improvement over your current position.

Everything else will fall into place in due time, such as career and/or personal advancement.
