Gantry Eagle 1200 mitsubishi EDM

Gantry Eagle 1200 mitsubishi EDM

(OP)
I recently was hired in as the maintenance manager at a tool and die co here in NW Ohio
they've recently purchased a Mitsubishi EDM
Gantry Eagle 1200 series due to be delivered the 28th of this month.
Production manager comes to me today and says he was informed that it is recommended that this new machine is anchored to the floor.
Does anyone have one of these or similar and can let me know if this is a necessity.
The EDM machine currently in place (will be getting disconnected and removed) is not anchored
Thank you for any advice

If I were spending several hundred dollars on a fancy new machine, which I expected to do fairly fine work, I think I would be inclined to follow the machine manufacturer’s recommendations for its foundation and securement thereto. In today’s world, with today’s machines it is probably not o.k. to say ‘ that’s the way we’ve always done it, we’ve been doing it wrong all along, but that’s how we’ve always done it, so that should be o.k. You are taking one heck of a responsibility for an expensive piece of equipment and process. Although, I would say you weren’t given particularly informative info. about the securement needs. You should get some plans and instructions from the manuf’er. so you can do the right thing and be ready for the machine. That’s part of what you’re getting paid to do.
