Fire pump room ventilation

Fire pump room ventilation

Fire pump room ventilation

(OP)
Does a fire pump room with an electric fire pump require ventilation. I can find ventilation requirements if using a diesel or gas powered fire pump but can't find anything for an electric fire pump. I wouldn't think any would be required since there is no combustion happening.

RE: Fire pump room ventilation

There isn't, but that big ol' motor will generate some serious heat. Doesn't hurt to have a small louver and exhaust fan (careful of placement don't freeze your pipe!)

RE: Fire pump room ventilation

There may not be any combustion happening, but there will be heat generation, so yes. Since you don't have the combustion of a diesel pump, it is more like a typical mechanical room in terms of ventilation requirements.

RE: Fire pump room ventilation

NFPA 20 4.12.6 Ventilation.
Provision shall be made for ventilation of a pump room or pump house.

RE: Fire pump room ventilation

If in the middle east, calculate ventilation air flow rate for max temperature rise of 5degC
