BS 4882 Fig 4 designation D - Problems
BS 4882 Fig 4 designation D - Problems
(OP)
Could do with some advice on the below problem I have.
BS4882 fig.4 D stipulates a double ended stud with a reduce portion retuning back to nominal diameter in the centre. The ends ae symmetrical!!
Here lies my problem
the equation uses the nominal diameter at a ratio to work out the thread length & the reduced portion length.
Lets say for instance for 1/2" Dia the total chamfer length + thread length + Reduced diameter length is 30mm,
What do I do if my stud dimensions given on my order are 1/2" x 56mm.
Do I sacrifice the reduced diameter or the thread length?
I am at a complete loss, anyone have ay advice or ideas?
Thanks

RE: BS 4882 Fig 4 designation D - Problems
I've looked at BS4882 and I would use the Imperial part for working the stud ratio's of diameter and length etc. because you are quoting 1/2" in your post.
Look at the notes on the bottom of page 30 relating to table 18 particularly notes a and b, I would ignore the 56mm length given in your post and supply a length of 1/2"x 2.5", incidentally 56mm = 2.25"
