Stepper motor plc Driven
Stepper motor plc Driven
(OP)
Hi
Im trying to control a multi turn valve/pressure reg
I wondered if it were possible to use a stepper motor driven directly from a plc via relays if nessary
the idea being I could program the plc to deliver the correct no of pulses for the required pressure output of the valve
can a stepper motor be driven this way ?

RE: Stepper motor plc Driven
Many PLC's have special modules for controlling stepper motors. These are similiar to high speed counter modules, but instead of counting pulses, they produce pulses. In general the frequency of the output pulses would be too high to use ordinary outputs.
RE: Stepper motor plc Driven
can you reccomend any specific make of plc
also as Im only contolling a valve speed is not a requirement.

Here's one more (your best bet from my experience):

Look at the appnote (PDF format) on their D2-CTRINT ($73.00) module. It is used with their DL205 PLC's (from $119-$250 depending on how much program memory you need). I've used their 05 series with much satisfaction in automating semiconductor research equipment.
The DL205 Series is shown at:

I hope this can help,

I suggest looking at:
1. GE Fanuc's VersaMax Micro & Nano's, www.gefanuc.com
2. Horner Electric's OCS, www.heapg.com
Remember, you will need a stepper drive. I suggest looking at:
1. Superior Electric, www.slosyn.com
2. IDC, www.idcmotion.com
3. GE Fanuc has some as well, www.gefanuc.com
4...Pac-Sci, Oriental, IMS, Gecko, AMCI....
If you want to go servo, Exlar Corp makes a drive for the Process world that accepts a 4-20ma or 0-10V analog for valve control.
