Bearing location on bar joists

Bearing location on bar joists

I have to build temp wall under bar joists approximately 3 feet from Cmu bearing wall Joists are top chord bearing. Temp bearing should bear at joint at top of bar joists?

RE: Bearing location on bar joists

Not necessarily. I'd prefer to employ bottom chord bearing directly below a panel point. You need to ensure that you've got something in place to prevent joist rollover at the temp wall however. That could be joist bridging or providing a braced temporary wall for example. Depending on your configuration and loading, it may be wise to pay some attention to potential stress reversals in the members of the truss. Usually that isn't an issue for the scenario that you've described.

I like to debate structural engineering theory -- a lot. If I challenge you on something, know that I'm doing so because I respect your opinion enough to either change it or adopt it.
