Selection criteria for SA 516 GR. 60 and GR.70?

(OP)
For carbon steel pressure vessel what is the criteria for choosing SA 516 Gr.60 or SA 516 Gr.70?

RE: Selection criteria for SA 516 GR. 60 and GR.70?

Tensile and yield strength requirements for design.

RE: Selection criteria for SA 516 GR. 60 and GR.70?

In the tank codes, Gr. 60 can be used at lower design temperatures without impact testing, which is pretty much the sole reason to use it. I'm not sure the extent to which that carries into ASME, though. Grade 70 is more readily available.

RE: Selection criteria for SA 516 GR. 60 and GR.70?

Often grade 70 can be dual certified to grade 60 as well.

RE: Selection criteria for SA 516 GR. 60 and GR.70?

I have seen many sour service specs that require Gr.60 with an added restriction on maximum tensile stress.
