Over the Plug Angle valve - susceptible for erosion and cavitation?

Over the Plug Angle valve - susceptible for erosion and cavitation?

Over the Plug Angle valve - susceptible for erosion and cavitation?

(OP)

Dear valve experts,

Appreciated for some enlighten. I have some problem with Angle Choke valve (6” x 6”) using Single stage Cage
Medium Gasoil (temperature: 150oC); Used to choke pressure from 68 bar to 6 bar; Flowrate 3,000 tons per day
What bother me (but not according to the manufacturer without specific explanation) is that the flow Over the Plug.
Two of these valves experienced erosion problem and probably cavitation, picture below shows that more or less the wall thickness reduce by half (the whole shows that erosion have reach the bolts). The cage and Plug still in fair condition though.

CMIIW, despite the Single Cage configuration (We will replace it with Triple stage). The “treated flow after passing through Cage” should be in theory less prone to cavitation isn’t it? Which is ideal shall the flow Under the Plug (all the flow passing through the cage).
Now since the flow is Over the plug, there are some flow which were “flanking” the Cage in a turbulence way and hit the Body area (made from Carbon Steel) located behind the cage, in regards with the incoming flow direction.
PS: this valve is 20 years old, and refurbished 8 years ago for the same reason. No nuisance vibration / sound ever reported

Does my concern Re: over the Plug valve not suitable for this application valid?
Or should I just modify valve? Orientation wise / body material / else?

Thanks in advance for sharing the knowledge. And apology shall not reply/thanking each contributors promptly
Regards,
MR

All valves will last for years, except the ones that were poorly manufactured; are still wrongly operated and or were wrongly selected

RE: Over the Plug Angle valve - susceptible for erosion and cavitation?

Dear Danlap,

It seems your valve Is seeing to much erosion and cavitation. This is due to many different factors.
I've been in the valve business for over 30 years and worked for some of the biggest companies, Fisher & CCI.

I'm currently the repair coordinator for a valve shop out of Houston, TX "Boron Technology, LLC"

The solution to your problem is a "Boron Hardening Process" this process is not a coating that you have to worry about chipping, cracking or peeling.
It simply hardens your material to increase to wear life by 2-4 times longer than OEM supplied goods.

Once your valve is hardened you will see tremendous life span improvement and durability against any wear, erosion, corrosion, and cavitation.

Give us a look at www.borontechnology.com & also take a look at some of our clients who've put boron treated parts in service and have seen 3 times longer wear life.

Sincerely,
Boron Tech
