Portal End Plate

Portal End Plate

Hi,

The steel fabricator has stopped the rafter end plate of a portal 5mm shy of the rafter bottom flange so the endplate doesn't extend beyond the column stiffener plates.

Any thoughts on this?

John.

RE: Portal End Plate

I think it's fine. I wouldn't mind seeing a sketch though to be sure that I understand the situation though. I'm assuming a bolted joint.

I like to debate structural engineering theory -- a lot. If I challenge you on something, know that I'm doing so because I respect your opinion enough to either change it or adopt it.

RE: Portal End Plate

Yeah a sketch would be helpful because my first thought was how the weld to the flange/plate is constructed.
