Rain pipe connected to Waste pipe

Rain pipe connected to Waste pipe

Rain pipe connected to Waste pipe

(OP)
Hi ,

Quick Question . i have different piping for waste , soil and rain ,

what if i connect the rain pipe to the waste pipe , is it OK by plumbing code , or there is a solid reason that both pipes cannot be connected ,

Feed me with your knowledge ,

Thanks ,

note : i have a rain pipe from roof which runs in the same shaft i have the waste pipe and soil pipe , what if instead of running another 5-6 floors down riser , i connect the rain pipe to waste pipe from the point they meet in the shaft .

Thanks

RE: Rain pipe connected to Waste pipe

Why would you want to "flood" (overflow) your waste pipe that is going to the sewer and the sewer pipe with rain water?

Why take the risk of flooding your building lower levels with sewage and waste diluted by rainwater when a pipe plugs up or jams up further downstream?

Keep them separate. (Do you consider waste water different from sewage water? One from a sink or process water system and one from the toilet? )

Yes Waste pipe : from floor drains , sinks , Shower Drain
Soil pipe : WC

That's true we have risk for over flows , thank you :)

RE: Rain pipe connected to Waste pipe

volume of water from roof drain will be much greater than normal wastewater flow and the wastewater treatment plant may be overwhelmed. combined sewers are generally not designed anymore in the US, although maybe it is common in another country. you should combine sink and toilet drains into one unless you have a separate gray water system

RE: Rain pipe connected to Waste pipe

The plumbing code does not allow roof drainage to be connected to the sanitary sewer. Roof drainage may be connected to a storm sewer.

RE: Rain pipe connected to Waste pipe

I would add that in many areas of the USA it is reportedly even illegal or unlawful to discharge roof drainage into sanitary sewers (with rationale explained in many ways, e.g. http://www.cityofhomer-ak.gov/publicworks/illegal-... ). Some areas are even trying to dissuade such drainage to even the storm sewer systems, preferring that the drainage soak instead into the Owner's property where that may be practical.
