Transformer Rating & 0.8 PF

Transformer Rating & 0.8 PF

Transformer Rating & 0.8 PF

(OP)
Hi,
In GCC Countrie's regulation ,there is a guideline which says Transformer to be rated(KVA) 25% more than Maximum Demand(KW).
How this value came from.If Power Factor is 0.8(1500KVA*0.8=1200KW),this could be possible. But with Capacitor Bank ,a must
we get power factor more than 0.92 minimum.

Is it a common practice everywhere. Please explain.

thanx in advance

Abraham

RE: Transformer Rating & 0.8 PF

It is common for installations to be based on demand factors. A service will be sized on the assumption that not all the connected load will be energized at the same time. The calculated demand may be exceeded by the actual demand during special times such as extremely hot weather, extremely cold weather, holiday activities or other abnormal conditions. The transformer is sized above the calculated demand to allow for occasional overloading.
