Problem with connectors and springs

Problem with connectors and springs

Problem with connectors and springs

(OP)
Hello everyone,

I’m new in Abaqus und I try to calculate the deformation of the following model:

A deformable cylinder, which is loaded in the middle. I define a reference point on each side of the cylinder which is supposed to represent the bearing point/bearing centre. The distance between each bearing point and the face of the cylinder is x mm. The section of the cylinder is not constant along the entire length. In my case I only model the section which is constant. So, there is a hole between the reference point and the cylinder face. The reference point belongs to the cylinder and has to be connected with it.
The bearing stiffness has also to be taken into consideration. To model this, spring elements have to be defined in radial and axial direction. One side of the spring is fix and the other side is coupled with/represents the reference point.
The idea is that the load applied on the cylinder generates reactions forces on each bearing point (and so a deformation of the bearings) which is reduced by their stiffness. To better understand my model, I attached a picture.

To connect the reference points with the cylinder I tried different solutions. I used connector elements like beam, then axial or Cartesian elements and also coupling constraints. For the spring elements I used Spring 2 Elements. Unfortunately Abaqus can’t do any calculations and always displays error messages. Depending on the solution tested, the model seems to be underconstrained or overconstrained.
I don’t really know how I can correctly connect the reference points with the cylinder and model the bearing stiffness. Does anybody have any suggestions to make this model usable?

Thanks
