large deformation and pressure direction

large deformation and pressure direction

large deformation and pressure direction

(OP)
I set the static problem with a soft object, and the boundary condition is surface pressure.
When ABAQUS solve the elastostatics problem, the object obviously deforms a lot. So my question is, does the direction of the pressure change according to the shape?
Or it just uses the surface normal of the initial shape and keep the force as constant in the process?
If it is the latter case, is it possible to faithfully solve the problem with changed pressure direction?

RE: large deformation and pressure direction

Pressure follows deformation, provided that large-deformation is "on".

Hi TGS4, so if I choose uniform pressure, then the solver, say the static Riks, will update the pressure according to the shape during solving?

RE: large deformation and pressure direction

As said: Yes, when you run the analysis with activated geometric nonlinearity.

RE: large deformation and pressure direction

Mustaine3 is correct. Even if the deformation is very large and the element area increases, the pressure is applied to the larger area (resulting in a larger load, for example).

Thanks a lot, Mustaine3 and TGS4. That's exactly what I need.
