weld rejection/repair rate at mill

weld rejection/repair rate at mill

weld rejection/repair rate at mill

(OP)
Hi,
Any idea on long seam weld rejection or repair rate at mill for Submerged-Arc welded steel pipes (NPS 36 heavy wall like 19.1 mm)?
Thanks

RE: weld rejection/repair rate at mill

If such "reject percentages" numbers were available from the mill QA department or operations/welding managers, the mill sales dept and VP's probably would NOT want those rates released. Bad numbers hurt their image for quality. Good numbers are an incentive to competitors to improve.

RE: weld rejection/repair rate at mill

Millimeters:
I’m sure the mills have these numbers down to the mm’s repaired per meter of pipe produced for various sizes and thicknesses, or on various production lines. They probably won’t be enthusiastic to hand this info. out to the general public, but might divulge some of it to sufficiently good customers. It seems to me, that what you should really care about, is that they have a good inspection program and a good QA program. You should care about the quality of the pipe when it leaves their plant, and gets to you, and the number of any defects found at your end.
