NX8.5 WITH teamcenter integration--- new user questions

NX8.5 WITH teamcenter integration--- new user questions

NX8.5 WITH teamcenter integration--- new user questions

(OP)
Hi all,

I'm new to NX but pretty good with SolidWorks... so most of my questions are "how to do _________" in NX that I currently do in SW.

I'm not getting much on google searches so posting here. (for the more savvy poster if you know of a thread that answers my question just link me to it would be great.)

Scenario 1: In SW I can create a new sub-assembly from components within an existing assembly by selecting the components from the assembly navigator and with a simple RMB click choose "make new sub-assembly". done..( incidentally mates that are between components within the new sub will be retained...) This replaces the components in the parent assembly with the new sub-assembly.

if the new Sub-assembly part number exists in teamcenter as a empty (no CAD) file is there a way to mimick the above functionality? (import the parts from the parent assembly into the empty sub. and replace them in the parent with the new sub WITHOUT having to build a whole new sub-assembly from the parts)

I know the teamcenter integration adds a level of complexity but there's got to be a way.. right?
Thanks in advance..

RE: NX8.5 WITH teamcenter integration--- new user questions

You might try selecting the sub-assembly components, then, Assemblies -> Components -> Create New Parent...
See if that works for you.
Although the part number exists in TC, it does not have a UGMASTER dataset yet.

Thanks Gary,

tried that & didn't get where I wanted because TC said revision already exists. (not saying it won't work, just that it didn't on first pass for me so I started looking for options)

This thread gave me enough hint to get it done..
http://www.eng-tips.com/viewthread.cfm?qid=295781

Steps: in NX ... teamcenter navigator search for empty sub-assembly part #. select item and RMB- select Add as component... this let me create the empty UG master under the existing revision file in TC. from there adds the part number & then drag/drop parts from parent into sub.

no constraints but it is mostly commercial components and will never need moving and everything stays in relative position. I can just "fix" at sub-assembly level. This is mostly about fixing structure.

RE: NX8.5 WITH teamcenter integration--- new user questions

That is similar to what I would have done; add empty sub-assy to the parent assy, then drag and drop the components you want to move into the sub-assy using the assy navigator.
