Corrosion Resistant Overlay

Corrosion Resistant Overlay

Corrosion Resistant Overlay P1 with ER312 (CRO) using GMAW-P single layer approximately 2500 sqft. Work is on a ASME Sec VIII-Div.1 pressure vessel. Base material is SA-516-70 2" thick. ASME Sec VIII-Div.1 Table UCS-56-1 (3).(e) states PWHT is not mandatory if 200F pre-heat is applied throughout the welding first layer. My question is can the welding be done with no pre-heat & no PWHT. Please Note: this is a repair under NBIC.

RE: Corrosion Resistant Overlay

Welding can be done with elevated preheat and no PWHT. Look at Welding Method 5 in the NBIC.

Metengr reason for my original post was we did not get a project because our competition stated they have a procedure that does not require Pre-heat or PWHT.

RE: Corrosion Resistant Overlay

Best to not follow the competition, there are companies out there I would not give the time of day for that very reason.
