GSD close surface tool

GSD close surface tool

GSD close surface tool

(OP)
Good afternoon all

I am currently designing an aircraft in CATIA for a group project at University, and have been using GSD within CATIA.

I now need to make it a solid part, and I have used the 'join' tool for each wing and the main body.

But now when I try to use close surface, I get the error "Close operator: an opening in the selected body cannot be closed by one single planar face. Modify the part."

I've tried using the healing tool, but it is the first time I've used it and it is not helping me close the surfaces into a solid.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

RE: GSD close surface tool

it's hard to say what's going on without seeing 3D

RE: GSD close surface tool

when you do the JOIN, you can ask for a preview, this will show any open boundary in green... Solve this and the Close surface should work

RE: GSD close surface tool

Sometimes you can not see the open boundary when joining surfaces together because it is so small.
If you are unable to locate the hole, try increasing the merging distance in either the heal or join.
This will work on small holes but runs the changes of altering the surfaces to create the join as you increase the merging distance.
If this does not work, turn on wire-frame viewing, and look to make sure there are no overlapping edges, when this happens it will not show a hole but will still cause the close surface to fail.

RE: GSD close surface tool

if you can't see the opening of the JOIN, then use BOUNDARY on the JOIN and reframe on the BOUNDARY

RE: GSD close surface tool

To add to itsmyjob statement, use "Boundary" with the "Create Datum" toggled on. This will create a datum curve for each hole.
