Dear mates,
My question is about methods to identify diferent filler metals used along the completion of the weld, specifically how to diferentiate 6010 & 8018 filler materials.
Any input will be appreciated.

You can try to use a hand held portable alloy analyzer to try to identify the 8018 weld metal composition.

Making HTV profile could help to determine something?

by using PMI(positive material identification)machine we can able to identify the difference.in this machine they are using X-Ray sources to find the composition of particular material.

From a visual perspective, an E6010 profile is rougher (coarse, uneven ripples) than an E8018; An E8018 will have flat, fine, tightly spaced ripples. An E6010 will have a higher propensity for spatter than an E8018.

As long as the original weld surface is visible, I agree that an experienced visual welding inspector should be able to tell the difference. This one of those situations where the inspector's back ground can make a difference. A welding inspector that was a welder and experienced using SMAW should be able to see the difference in the weld bead appearance. The difference between E6010 and E7018 or E8018 is pretty obvious to the welder/inspector that has welded with electrodes that utilize a cellulose based flux and limestone based flux.
