RE: correct tech def

ceiling plaster has failed, thus . . .

other words . . .
deteriorate, decay, rot, decomposed, etc.

good luck!

RE: correct tech def

That is not just a ceiling. It is an old structural system of reinforced ribs between clay tile infills. Leakage has led to corrosion of the reinforcement in the ribs, with resulting spalling of the concrete and clay tiles. You need a structural engineer, not a linguist.

RE: correct tech def

The plaster and lath have sloughed-off.

RE: correct tech def

The section of ceiling has probably been removed to get access to the deteriorated structure above.

(OP)
hookie66 : I am not going to adjust the structure. I needed only the correct definition of such a failure while teaching a bit of correct technical english to students

RE: correct tech def

Well, somebody needs to "adjust" the structure before it collapses. The ceiling is not the problem, and I tried my best to describe the structural problem based on the one photograph.

RE: correct tech def

So where in the world would you find such a ceiling? To me it appears more of a roof above the plaster ceiling.

RE: correct tech def

robyengIT : You may want to invest in one of those construction dictionary similar to the one that I have, written by "Greater Phoenix,Arizona Chapter #98of the National Association of Women in Construction" copyright 1973. It is a valuable tool for teachers of Construction Engineering.
