PV Seismic calculation according to Portuguese seismic code

PV Seismic calculation according to Portuguese seismic code

PV Seismic calculation according to Portuguese seismic code

(OP)
Hi All,

I am designing a pressure vessel that will be installed in Portugal. Requirement is to have seismic calculations done per Portuguese seismic code. This is what i have so far:

From customer we have received translation of certain pages from that code and those pages mostly talk about reinforced concrete and steel structures (buildings). This information does not help as the values of constants found are not applicable to anything other than buildings. I was able to find that Portuguese code is basically Eurocode 8 with some addendum. And that's about it...

We are using Compress (latest build) for our code calculations and have a variety of seismic codes to select UBC, IBC and ASCE, but nothing that is comparable to Eurocode 8 or Portuguese one (at least not obvious). I was hoping to find which of the available codes is comparable and possible a bit more stringent that what i need to be sure that we are complying to project requirements.

Vessel is 35 meters tall. For the first 10 or so meters vessel is 2,3m in diameter and narrows down to 1,9 meter till the top.

If there's any webpage that compares codes, or any kind of help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you

RE: PV Seismic calculation according to Portuguese seismic code

You will need to use the Portugal code to get the design ground acceleration (static or spectrum) for the location and the importance/hazard level of the vessel.

Then you apply the design rules for the vessel design code. This maybe the a factor applied to the design ground acceleration or a factor on the allowable stress.

The foundation designer is going to have use the Portugal code. The foundation designer maybe a local engineer and can provide you the information you need from Portugal code.
