Inspection Dimensions

Inspection Dimensions

Link TO MACRO

I was wondering if the macro in this thread could be modified to only use selected dimensions rather that all dimensions within a print? I don't always want to add inspection numbers to every dimension on a print.

RE: Inspection Dimensions

rikonen,

I use that macro for almost all my drawings. We have our parts/tools machined to model and the drawing is only for applying tolerances. That way if we do not want the featured measured as part of the first article inspection (FAI) we leave it off the print. For dimensions we want measured for every lot we use the inspection dimension symbol which is the oval around the dimension. We do not have any parts that are machined by hand everything is done via CNC or is an injection molded part.

I could understand if your parts are machined by hand why you would have dimensions and not what the numbers. However, I like having the numbers because it makes it easier to discuss dimensions with the people making the part. Instead of having to call out a certain block on the drawing and the feature you can just talk about the dimension number. This comes in really handy when you have 5 or 6 features that all about the same size but different geometries so you cannot use a generic call out.
