Hydrotest
Hydrotest
(OP)
Hi All,
I have a question regarding the hydrotest.
We have a pipeline of size 8 inch. The design pressure is 215 bar, installation temp is 13 deg c an dwall thickness is 7.3 mm with 0 mm corossion allowance.
While doing the calculation for equivalent stress during hydrotesting the system shows failure as teh calculauted stress is more than 90% of SMYS.
Equivalent stress is calculated as hoop stress +Expansion stress+sustained stress.
is this the right approach?

RE: Hydrotest
What is SMYS of pipe material?
What is design code and how have you calculated hydrotest pressure / what hydrotest pressure are you using?
So long as it's not more than 105% of SMYS you're Ok for hydrotest as it's not a sustained pressure.
You don't normally have thermal stress in a hydrotest.
