ASME STAMPED Plate Heat Exchanger ( Additional plates)

ASME STAMPED Plate Heat Exchanger ( Additional plates)

(OP)
Dear All,

I am currently working on a project which requires a revamp of an existing Plate Heat Exchanger. Performance needs to be enahnced by adding some number of plates. Now the hydraulics are fixed and the number of plates to be added has been proposed by Vendor. The existing PHE is ASME Stamped. The additional plates to be provided by Vendor is pressed without any welding.

My question would be :

1. I am thinking if i have to ask Vendor to have the additonal plates ASME stamped. Is that even possible or does it have any advantage.
2. After the additional plates hsa been installed,do i need to have the modified PHE "R" stamped? Is is the correct way?

Need some points from someone who has done revamping PHE's.

Thanks

RE: ASME STAMPED Plate Heat Exchanger ( Additional plates)

I do not think the supplier will be able to stamp a plate only.
A review of the drawing that was used to stamp the vessel would be helpful, but a R stamp may be required …
