Blind flange on pump case
Blind flange on pump case
(OP)
We are being required to engineer appropriate blind flanges to bolt to pump cases for blinding whenever we take the pump out of service for overhaul.
The blind flange will be designed on a case by case basis and will be designated to the certain pump and bolted to the pump case.
Thickness will be determined by pump design temperature and discharge pressure.
My question pertains to the governing body, ASME B31.3, Section 8, something else? These blinds will only be temporary and are there for added protection if the suction side valve leaks by or fails completely.
Thoughts and recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
THanks

RE: Blind flange on pump case
All flange codes include blind flanges for their pressure rating, e.g. ASME B 16.9, but other flange codes exist.
There is no rhyme or reason to do this yourself.
ASME B 16.48 has dimensions for line blinds.
