Fault Location for Phase to Phase Fault
Fault Location for Phase to Phase Fault
(OP)
When calculating the fault impedance for a C-A phase fault I am taking Vca/Ica to get Zca ( I am also assuming zero fault resistance). Is that the total loop impedance or is that the one way impedance to the fault? It seems to be the loop impedance to me but from what sources I have read they all imply it is the one way impedance.

RE: Fault Location for Phase to Phase Fault
VA = VC - IC*ZT
VC = VA - IA*ZT
VA - VC = (VC-VA) - (IC-IA)*ZT
2*(VA-VC) = -(IC-IA)*ZT
2*(VA-VC) = (IA-IC)*ZT
2*(VA-VC)/(IA-IC) = ZT
VAC/IAC = ZT/2
ZT/2 = half of the total loop impedance
