I'm currently taking a look at PMI, although I don't yet have the license.

Do PMI dimensions and annotations share the same settings as Drafting ?

For example, if my drafting dimensions and annotations are blockfont and blue, would my PMI drafting and annotations also be blockfont and blue ?

RE: PMI Settings

This depends on your customer default settings and your template file settings. The same settings that control drafting preferences is the same that controls PMI dimensions.

That will prove interesting then smile

Typically, we have a black background in drafting and a graduated light grey background in modelling,

RE: PMI Settings

If you toggle on the "wireframe contrast" option, the dimensions should show up well regardless of the background color; the "display color" of the dimensions will be adjusted to suit the background.

RE: PMI Settings

If you use the master model approach you can have different settings for you 3D modeling template vs your 2D drafting template

SDETERS ... We do use the master model approach, and I was assuming the PMI would go in the drafting file.

Yes, of course, it could be created in the model file.

I assume PMI can still be inherited into the drawing file, if needed?

RE: PMI Settings

Yes you can. I think there is different thoughts of how to apply the PMI to the 3D model. I use the model views to place the PMI into. Then use these model views to create your 2D views from. It is a toggle inside of your view properties.

RE: PMI Settings

Not exactly replying to the issue discussed other than the subject of PMI we are new at.
I posted earlier today the following inquiry. Will definitely accept any PMI comments that may help us using it.

Our engineering group is working on a new large project in NX9 and we are just starting to use the PMI dimensions from the model to create the drawings. I noticed that when adding the model views with PMI in it that all dimensions, text, drafting entities are created inside the member view.
What drafting I have done so far with PMI has been rather cumbersome such as editing settings, removing appended text, relocating dimensions, etc. to create the drawing per our standards. We do plan to change our default setting to be able to edit these PMI dimensions from model to drawing and drawing to model and also update the PMI settings to closer match our drafting settings.

What I finally did was select the PMI dimensions in a view and copy-paste them to the drawing and re-associate to the features. This works very well and now all of my drafting entities our outside of the view on the drawing.

I have been using UG for 31 years and all drafting entities we create are outside of the view.

Is there any advantages/disadvantages to the entities being all in the member view versus outside of the view?

SDETERS ... if the PMI is in the model file, and not the drawing file, how do you then inherit it to the drawing file ?

When adding the base view, do I have to select the model part?
