LAUNCHING / RECEIVING TRAP - U-STAMP ISSUE

LAUNCHING / RECEIVING TRAP - U-STAMP ISSUE

LAUNCHING / RECEIVING TRAP - U-STAMP ISSUE

(OP)
Dear all,
This post to find help about a client application concerning a number of launching / receiving trap for off shore installation. Please apologise and consider that we have not a big knowhow in this argument.
Based on client requirement :
- Client require a code application for ASME Sect VIII Div. 1, ASME B31.3, ASME B31.8.
- Client supply the TDS and IDS of the traps
My issue is the following:
- I need to understand if it’s mandatory for ASME Sect VIII Div. 01 to apply the U-Stamp (also for the closures?), note that in client TDS U-stamp is not indicate
- Finally, I would like to fabricate the traps in our workshop, but really I don’t know which standard and qualification is necessary to have.
Thanks

RE: LAUNCHING / RECEIVING TRAP - U-STAMP ISSUE

pisu 78,

First please spell out abbreviations - TDS to me means Total dissolved solids? Is it Technical Design Spec?

IDS? - Interface data sheets?? International Distress signal?

anacronym finder delivered 120 different meanings for TDS and 147 for IDS....

A pig trap should be designed and built to the relevant pipeline code, in your case B31.8. It is NOT a pressure vessel and therefore does not need to be stamped to ASME VIII.

ASME VIII is limited to the design and fabrication of the pre-fabricated end closure only hence it will come with its own stamp and relevant certificates on the end forging only.

B 31.3 is limited to any off pipe piping , but not normally used.

A pig trap is really just an extension of the pipeline so you can make it in your workshop using pipeline materials and pipeline welding codes and procedures.

This should all be detailed in the specification and data sheet?

Hi,
Thank you for your reply.
Sorry for the acronyms: TDS-Technical data sheet, IDS-inspection data sheet. TDS include all information such dimension, material, but thickness and connection long welding neck flange must be calculating by us.
The client demand to apply a list of code, this:
- inspection documents according to EN 10204:2004 Type 3.1
- ASME B31-8 "Gas Transmission and Distribution Piping Systems"
- API 5L "Specification for Line Pipe"
- ASME B31.3 "Process Piping Guide"
- ASME B31.4 piping transportation system
- ASME Sect IX (boiles&pressure vessel code)
- ASME Sect. VIII Div. 1 "Boiler and pressure vessel codes"
- ASME B 16.5 "Steel Pipe Flanges and Flanges Fittings"
- ASME B 16.9 "Factory made Wrought Steel Butt welding end"
- ASME B 16.25 "Butt welding ends"
- NOTE: the client internal code said that pressure device must supplied according to PED and shall CE marked, this is my case?
Finally, I’m becoming crazy on that task. Also, if I apply the request to some specialised vendor, I think it will be complicate to check the technical conformity.
Thanks

That's just throwing specifications and hoping one will stick. There are two pipeline codes there alone.

I wouldn't try second guessing this, look up this lot and choose a member close to you or try the guide.

I've used this lot before, butt here are many others.
