PMP Certification or LEED GA / AP

PMP Certification or LEED GA / AP

Hello Everyone,

I am civil engineer and willing to get a good professional accreditation which will be helpful for my professional growth.

From recent trends in our profession i am observing two major accreditation are taking place, which are:

1. PMP Certification
2. LEED GA or LEED AP Accreditation

Now, I am confused to choose a single one which will have a growing demand in coming days. Study and acquiring PMP certification will provide knowledge of organizing project and overall management of a firm and might open a broad area of project management and scopes to work in large construction management works. On the other hand LEED GA will provide me with the knowledge of developing sustainable building system which is somewhat more interesting...

Can one give me any suggestion or share your experience in this regard ???

Thanks in advance.

RE: PMP Certification or LEED GA / AP

I like PMP. Like a fairly practical, poor man's MBA. LEED has yet to bring any work in the door for me and I find it a pain to maintain. I did watch a cool presentation on birds flying into buildings as part of my last LEED renewal scramble though.

I like to debate structural engineering theory -- a lot. If I challenge you on something, know that I'm doing so because I respect your opinion enough to either change it or adopt it.

Thanks KootK for sharing your view. Do you have both PMP and LEED certification ???

RE: PMP Certification or LEED GA / AP

I've had LEED for about 10 years. No PMP. My wife has PMP and gets oodles of mileage out of it. We live in oil country, though, which tends to exacerbate the value of PMP. If you check out the PMBOK document, I think that you'll find it quite practical in a project management sense.

If i get myself PMP certified, then would i be able the get jobs over Europe or other countries ?

i am from Bangladesh (South Asia)

RE: PMP Certification or LEED GA / AP

I'm afraid that I'm not in a position to speak to the market value of PMP outside of North America.
