Anyone with access to GE EMPIS (Even an old one?)

Hello!

First post is asking for a favor. I'm looking at an old GE material spec, B50T1145. Circa 1964! Apparently a part has gone obsolete and I'm being asked to quote an equivalent replacement, just need to know what it is first. Gut feel is a M50 NIL of sorts, but if someone has access I'd be forever appreciative.

Thanks much!

RE: Anyone with access to GE EMPIS (Even an old one?)

M50 NIL (AMS 6278) is a high-performance bearing steel. Is this part used in a rolling element bearing?

RE: Anyone with access to GE EMPIS (Even an old one?)

Is this material specification for a part from a steam turbine, pump or gas turbine?

Hello. Yes, it's a bearing. Main shaft for a flight motor. It's one of the primary areas of operation for our company (Bearing manufacturer).

That 1964 GE spec has likely been superseded. This data sheet from Latrobe for premium aircraft quality M50NiL bar lists the current GE equivalent as B50TF211. However it might be that the spec you noted is for a specific material form such as a rolled ring.

I'm sure if you gave an aerospace material supplier like Latrobe a call they would be happy to help you find a suitable current equivalent for your quotation effort.
