Partially Welded Drum to New Manufacturer

Partially Welded Drum to New Manufacturer

Partially Welded Drum to New Manufacturer

(OP)
Hi,
We have a pair of ASME Section I drums being manufactured by a sub-contractor, whose workers have gone on strike indefinitely. The drums are in the middle of fabrication, and we are considering moving them to a new sub-contractor.

Both sub-contractors are ASME Stamp Holders. The drums have nozzle attachments that have CJP welds, welded from both sides. Prior to the worker strike, the current sub welded all of the nozzles from one side but not the other.

Could a new manufacturer take on responsibility for this work, and complete the nozzle welds from the other side? I understand they would need to stamp the parts and provide partial data reports, but it is an unusual circumstance to have welds that are only partially completed.

Thanks,
qaqceng

RE: Partially Welded Drum to New Manufacturer

Yes, they "Could". But the likelihood is "slim to none' and slim has left town". The very best you can expect is for the nozzles be cut out and rewelded by Shop #2. And I will be surprised if you can find a Code shop willing to complete another one's work. Only look at shops that use the same Inspection Agency. That is the only way I could see this mess working out you..

And you have my sympathy
