HydroCAD - Pipe, CB & Parking Lot Detention

HydroCAD - Pipe, CB & Parking Lot Detention

(OP)
I am a HydroCAD new-be. I am looking to model a storm system where discharge is controlled by a snout outlet pipe in a terminal CB, pipe and CB storage, and parking lot storage to about 6-inch depth over the CB. The site is relatively small, 1-acre (fast food).

Any tips from experienced users on the best model setup?

Tips are much appreciated!

RE: HydroCAD - Pipe, CB & Parking Lot Detention

You can use the "Chamber Wizard" (it also handles conventional pipes in addition to proprietary chambers) to configure your underground storage (http://hydrocad.net/chambers/wizard.htm). Then you just need to add the surface storage to the same "Pond" node.

That or just do a custom stage-storage with the relevant elevations and volumes, and your outfall pipe as the OCS. The snout is not going to factor into the routing. If you really need to split hairs, the grate will act as a horizontal orifice, then routes to the inlet box, then to the outlet pipe.

RE: HydroCAD - Pipe, CB & Parking Lot Detention

Caution: If you use the chamber wizard, make sure you reduce the void space to zero unless you plan on having a perforated pipe. You can really screw up badly that way.

For your system, AJR44, I would enter each pipe as a single line in the storage table, and then enter the parking lot geometry as a custom stage-storage element in the storage table. I would ignore the grates as they'll pass more water than the outlet control will pass, most likely.
