Industrial Buildings in Canada

Industrial Buildings in Canada

Industrial Buildings in Canada

(OP)
Hi

We have recently been asked to produce a structural options appraisal for an industrial facility in Canada, Ontario. Being from the UK we have never had to produce a design for these kind of structures with such a substantial snow/drift load and was looking for a bit of guidance...

Obviously the material (steel/concrete) and system (Portal frame, truss roof etc..) depends on the building usage and clear span requirement but I was wondering if there was a type of construction which is generally the go to in Canada. For example, in the UK, we usually find that a steel portal frame is the most cost efficient due to weight of material and procurement.

Sorry for such a general question but any information of this kind would be great.

Regards

RE: Industrial Buildings in Canada

Portal frames are commonly used for light industrial buildings in Canada as well.

I like to debate structural engineering theory -- a lot. If I challenge you on something, know that I'm doing so because I respect your opinion enough to either change it or adopt it.
