Hello,

Wanting to know if any one knows of a test that can be done to test for deformation of a die cast aluminum part. The length of the part is roughly 20" in length and 6" wide and about an 1" deep. We currently are using a stamped aluminum base which is to "flimsy".
Any suggestions are welcome.

I may be a bit ignorant without any other information. My first thought is to set up a test where you to compressively load the part in the middle using a mandrel in a universal load test frame. You can then measure deflection vs. load to failure, and/or compare loads at set deflection points. Then you can use the same tests to compare different designs.

If you are asking for a standard test, no. What you ask can be done several different ways. You will most likely need to use a load cell and strain gages placed at select locations. The key will be to validate your test data with FEM analysis.
