Rotation shaft using solid elements does not rotate - Dynamic Explicit

Rotation shaft using solid elements does not rotate - Dynamic Explicit

(OP)
Hi,

I am trying to model a rotation shaft using solid elements. I have pinned the nodal points on the center line along the x-axis to allow rotation in the x-direction as shown below in 3D space. However, the rotation shaft does not seem to move when the analysis starts. The analysis is Explicit so the steel density is provided to the rotation shaft as well as the E and Poisson's ratio.

RE: Rotation shaft using solid elements does not rotate - Dynamic Explicit

How are you driving the rotation? The nodes of solid elements do not have a rotational DOF. Try creating a reference point on the axis and apply the rotation there. Then create a coupling constraint between the reference point and the shaft.

I hope this helps.
