Anyone have a copy of the vintage chance vought aircraft structural design manual?

Anyone have a copy of the vintage chance vought aircraft structural design manual?

(OP)
This is referenced and Bruhn and I was wondering if anyone happened to have a copy? This is an old (1950s) manual.

Thanks!

GrandpaDave,

That is what I am looking for, but unfortunately that auction ended 2 years ago.

RE: Anyone have a copy of the vintage chance vought aircraft structural design manual?

Contact the seller, ask if "he" has another, or if "he" will provide contact info of the buyer. Maybe you can buy it from "him".

RE: Anyone have a copy of the vintage chance vought aircraft structural design manual?

where's the reference in Bruhn, what section? maybe there's something similar in another text ?
what are you looking for in the original reference ?

ebay !? you'd've thunk it ?

another day in paradise, or is paradise one day closer ?

RE: Anyone have a copy of the vintage chance vought aircraft structural design manual?

Wish you'd asked before the holidays. My alma mater has a copy in the engineering reference section of their library. It's library use only but students / alumni can make copies - I'd have made some. Unfortunately I'm back across the country now.

On that note, I'm not sure where you are located but you can check your local university.

I checked with my library they are going to work on getting a copy

RE: Anyone have a copy of the vintage chance vought aircraft structural design manual?

All,

Inter-library loan has proven effective, albeit slower than molasses in an igloo. I guess I can't complain.

If anybody is still interested in this manual, let me know an I can send you a link.

sure ... it seems to be open source now

I'd sure like a link to that manual.

thanks

LiftDivergence,

A link would be great. I was never able to get a copy through Inter-library loan as they could only locate one copy and it was in a special collection that doesn't get loaned.

Initially I was thinking of sending the link in a PM to those interested. But I think actually it should be alright just to post it in the thread. Try this:

Let me know if it doesn't work.

It seems like there is more to this manual, but this is all the library had.

Thanks LiftDivergence!

I got it with no problems. I think there is more to it, but I haven't had any luck finding it.

thanks LiftDivergence

Thank you; what a fascinating piece of history.

DANG... thought I had a copy of the Chance-Vought Aircraft [CVA] SAM for You... However my copy was actually a CONsolidated Vultee AIRcraft [CVA] Corp SAM, Circa 1944.

If anyone is interested. I also have copies of several 'other' Corp SAMs from the 1960s thru 1980s, which I've picked-up thru the years and probably shouldn't mention, but I'm trying to 'down size' my home library to worthy sites/orgs/individuals.

IF interested, ask what I have, I'll say yay or nay.

NOTE. One manual I've found useful for hand calcs...

Here is a Vought-Sikorsky Structural Design Manual from presumably prior to 1954:

Link

By table of contents, this does not match the partial Chance Vought era manual above.

Aside - recent article about new Vought collection at San Diego Air & Space Museum:

Perhaps they have a copy of the full Chance Vought manual.

wktaylor,

Is there a way to contact you through personal message? Would you happen to have the old Boeing SAM? I know there is one out there as I have seen it, but wasn't able to get it long enough to scan.

RE: Anyone have a copy of the vintage chance vought aircraft structural design manual?

724napier...

Don't have a Boeing SAM... But I do have a copy of the 'Boeing Mini-Design Manual' [BMDM]... intended for use-by [and training-of] new structures engineers...

I was a new-hire at Piper Aerostar Div, Santa Maria CA Apr 1979.

An old gray-haired designer took his BMDM copy with him when Boeing laid-him-off in the early 1970s... and some-how he managed to get updated info through the lean/mean 1970s. He allowed me to copy his book [3-ring binder] so I would have professional insight into the working elements of an engineer, early in my career.... and so I wouldn't keep asking completely 'dumb-*ss questions' all the time! Learn by reading.

Hmmmm.... What a unique learning concept... and certainly waaaayyyy better than word-of-mouth and nagging everyone with basic questions that were well illustrated 'in-the-book'!!

Over the years I also accumulated other Boeing 'stuff': for instance, my data also includes a section on 'lessons-learned' [dos/don'ts for various structural components/configurations]; and another section on airframe metal component fabrication.

WKTaylor,

Do you have a digital copy of the BMDM? I would love to have a copy :)

WKTaylor,

The 'Boeing Mini-Design Manual' [BMDM] that you speak of.

RE: Anyone have a copy of the vintage chance vought aircraft structural design manual?

724n...

Oh duhhh....

Yep: 4.5" thick 3-ring binder [~7--8#, ~80% full], last updated in 1979... never run thru scanner [what a pain that would be].

Includes mini-DM + lessons-learned + extracts from older DM [most are 2-sided pages; some 1-sided pages]
