(OP)
Press guy has given me limited information about the press - 400 kips dynamic load. I'm trying to do a last check on the concrete mass, however all my references work with a velocity/hammer weight form of an equation. For example ACI31 use 75Br*(Vr/Vo)^2 (Vr=Hammer velocity, Br=hammer weight, Vo=18.4 f/s).

Not so much concerned with the soil, which has undergone some improvement beneath this pit for the press, but I want to make sure the mass of the concrete is sufficient. Any formula/rule-of-thumb for using the dynamic load?

Thanks for any help

RE: Press Foundation

Rich,
Check out ACI 351.3R-04. It has pretty much everything you would need for the design of a straightforward, uncomplicated, dynamic equipment foundation.
