Weld Strength Calculations

What references does everyone use for weld strength calculations? Namely in Canada?

I use CSA S16, but Section 13 doesn't cover all configurations possible.

RE: Weld Strength Calculations

Hi

I can't speak for what specifications or codes in Canada would give you any equations but this site may help

http://www.gowelding.com/calcs/calc.htm

Another site where there are lots of equations for welded joints is a site called

"Roymech" if you type this into google it should enable you to find it.

Eurocode, in particular EN 1993-1-8 covers quite some cases

Thanks for the responses. Has anyone used the Lincoln Electric "Procedure Handbook" for weld strength calcs?

I have seen those websites before, desertfox. The information looks correct, but I have a hard time trusting any website that was put together by an individual person. Especially when the bottom of the page says that the page is still being developed, or it's almost 15 years old.

RE: Weld Strength Calculations

Hi

Well I have used those sites and I have checked the formula against text books and found them to be okay.

The several Blodgett books (from Lincoln) are certainly worth reading.

RE: Weld Strength Calculations

W59 plus the reference below should get you most of what you need for Canadian specific stuff. Quality-wise, it`s no match for the Lincoln Electric docs.

I like to debate structural engineering theory -- a lot. If I challenge you on something, know that I'm doing so because I respect your opinion enough to either change it or adopt it.

Thanks for the responses, everyone!
