Dear Experts,

Need your quick help on the subject line.

In general What I think is ASME B 31.3 is far more conservative when calulating Thickness of Pipe when compared to Pipeline Code ASME B 31.4/31.8.

The reason being Safety in Process plant environment is considerably critical when compared to the Popeline travel in differenct Geogrhies.

Pls share your knowledge regarding the same.

Thanks & Regards,
Abhijit

This sounds like a student question to me... Convince me it isn't before I give an answer, but if you do some searching on this site you'll probably find what you're looking for.

Remember - More details = better answers
Also: If you get a response it's polite to respond to it.

Could depend on what loads are present on the pipe line? There can be other loads too. Waves on platform risers? Span distances! Perhaps you are only referring to the thickness required for pressure. If only it were that simple.

B31.8 has 0.4 and 0.5 design factors for city installation.
