Current properties in florida with BMS HVAC control systems are operating based on return air temperatures. Would there be much benefit in installing humidistats to control on/off or temps instead or in addition to?

RE: Humidistat

Humidistats work best on a system designed with a humidity control option and do not replace the thermostat. Such systems will reheat the air after the main cooling coil so you don't overcool the space which can be a problem if you allow a humidistat to override the thermostat in turning the HVAC on/off.

RE: Humidistat

instead. you can either control temperature or humidity - to control both, you need two cooling exchangers plus one for reheating.

if your system is already designed for return air temperature, you would likely need significant modifications for the whole system to make it work.

RE: Humidistat

Are you running economizers? For a hot, humid climate, I would think that being able to run the economizer off differential enthalpy would be of benefit.

Thanks for the reply's. Yes we do have economizers at the one specific property. The reason I asked about humidistats is the propery in question has an "Ice skating rink" right in the middle of the mall adding to the already humid location. I thought that humidistats may help in this area. P.S. The mall runs off of both DX and Chiller Water. Currently the properies Engineers are running chillers for the sole purpose of dehumidification. Such a energy waste.

RE: Humidistat

Making ice in Fla is an energy waste.
