Rolled Blend on Sharp Edge

Rolled Blend on Sharp Edge

RE: Rolled Blend on Sharp Edge

On the (vertical) corner edge that the blend rolls over make that a very tiny blend, maybe one-thousandth of a unit, and then create the fillet with tangent edges "on".

RE: Rolled Blend on Sharp Edge

As has already been alluded to, by both YOU and jerry1423 there is no way to create that sort of corner blend using only the blend tool. Now if you absolutely must avoid using the very small blend workaround, then you will need to construct the feature using other tools.

What version of NX are you using? Perhaps I could you at least some sort of workaround.

RE: Rolled Blend on Sharp Edge

I noticed this lack of functionality when I began using UG version NX3. I wonder how did Solidworks developers implement this feature using Parasolid geometry kernel? Attached are images from Solidworks. It can be done in Catia as well but Catia doesn't use Parasolid kernel. I hope someday NX offers this functionality.

Thanks for the work around John.

It would be good to implement it in a future version of NX unless it's patented by Dassault.

RE: Rolled Blend on Sharp Edge

Roseda, here's how it works;
If you find an option which you think is missing, or a function/ feature which could be enhanced.
You go :
http://www.plm.automation.siemens.com/en_us/suppor...
then select either "Contact Support- Gtac operating hours and phone menu"
( or "Gtac Country Websites" for non-US users.)
OR
"Create or Update an IR"

When filing Enhancement Requests ( this will in Siemens vocabulary be an "ER") Remember to motivate why this feature/function is important and how much money you would save if it existed.
Siemens development must for each new release decide which new features / functions to spend their development budget on.
They have a very long list of possible enhancements, features requested by the users, features that competitors have, features needed because of future projects etc etc. All projects have a cost.
No features are today implemented just for fun, they must all be motivated.

Posting good ideas on forums like this, might not result in much more than a post on a forum.

Tomas

RE: Rolled Blend on Sharp Edge

Serious question.

Besides aesthetic reasons, whats the advantage to the radius on the corner?

RE: Rolled Blend on Sharp Edge

@robnewcomb
Simple answer.
It is not about aesthetics. It produces a better design.

RE: Rolled Blend on Sharp Edge

@cnc07

if I was machining that condition, I'd just remove all the radii and use an end mill with the proper radius. The actual product would have a round corner.
I would never call myself a machinist or even a cnc machinist though I have quite a bit of background, I always think about "how would I actually make this" when I model something.

That's why I assumed it was just for aesthetic reasons.
