Solidworks Break Lines in a Drawing view

Solidworks Break Lines in a Drawing view

Solidworks Break Lines in a Drawing view

(OP)
Hello,

I have a cable with 4 wires and I want to only break the middle wire only for its longer then the others, all the wires are in the same direction and spaced equally apart.

When I try to break the one wire the break lines cover all the wires in the drawing view and they are are broken I don't want this.

I have tried to click on the end of the break line to see if I can control the length but it does not allow this.

I have gone to options, Doc properties, detail and click on "view break lines" and there is Gap and Extension values and I have adjusted the Extension values and nothing changes.

Any help will be appreciated.

Jeff

Drag the break lines in either direction until it breaks only the longer wire.

Thanks for the reply but:

Imagine having 4 wires that are parallel to each other 1 inch apart and you only want to break wire number 2 and leave the others in tact not broken.

Using the broken view command it ask you to select the drawing view and then the break lines cover all the wires and ends up breaking all of them where I just want to break wire 2 only and leave the others as is.

I cannot find out how to tell Solidworks to do this I was hoping you could click on the ends of the break lines and drag them to only cover the area I want to break but it will not do this.
Thank you,

Jeff

It breaks thru the View, all parts. This is a good suggestion to submit.

RE: Solidworks Break Lines in a Drawing view

I don't understand how SW could do the calculations to break only part of a view. Think about it. You're not breaking a "part", you're breaking a window looking at that part, or whatever else appears in that window at the break point. Since one wire is longer than the others, I'm assuming it extends beyond the others in that view. Why can't you just move the break lines to an area where only that wire is shown? It would be broken and the others would not. I've done that several times.
