Plies draping in wrong direction?

Plies draping in wrong direction?

Plies draping in wrong direction?

(OP)
In my model made in CATIA V5-6R2015, I've set the draping direction for the Plies Group to up along the positive z axis of my axis system.

However, when I create a ply, then explode it, I notice that its draping in the wrong direction. When I double click on the explode plied it says "Ply draping direction is opposite to that of Ply Group's draping direction".

To fix it, I have to open the Plies Group options, deactivate "Lock plies draping direction", press OK, then reactivate the "Lock plies draping direction" which inverts the plies' originally wrong draping direction.

RE: Plies draping in wrong direction?

Could it be because the surface direction that I'm laying the plies on might be pointing downwards instead of up even though the plies group direction is pointed up?

It has been pointed out to me that it is a good idea to Join a surface and define the desired surface direction there to ensure proper draping direction.

Edit: Nope, that doesn't seem to solve the problem.

RE: Plies draping in wrong direction?

yours model looks ok even if i unlock plies draping direction and also works ok with a new ply group.
if you have a lot of plies or ply groups the easiest way to to change draping direction and all other properties is interactive ply table.
