Reinforcement Area Overlap, UG-42

Reinforcement Area Overlap, UG-42

RE: Reinforcement Area Overlap, UG-42

c8829, per my reading of the Code, you may not consider limits to be asymmetric. UG-37, UG-40 etc, considers limits to be equal each side of the finished opening.

Regards,

Mike

The problem with sloppy work is that the supply FAR EXCEEDS the demand

RE: Reinforcement Area Overlap, UG-42

I confirm, both UG-39 and UG-42 say that, for two adjacent openings, at least 50% of the summed required reinforcements must be located in the ligament between the two.
To satisfy this requirement you can choose the limit of reinforcement along vessel wall for each opening to a value lower than the one defined in UG-37 and such that the two limiting circles are tangent; then you check the reinforcement of each opening as if it was isolated.
You can freely choose the two limits in order to favor the opening that needs more (e.g. because it has a thinner nozzle).

Thanks Mike.
Thanks prex, with all respect
But 50% of the summed requirement for reinforcement is for Fig.UG-42.2(b) where three nozzle's reinforcement overlap.

For two nozzle's reinforcement area overlap in UG-42(a) says combined reinforcement that has an area not less than the sum of area required.

RE: Reinforcement Area Overlap, UG-42

But also

Quote (UG-37)

Not less than half the required reinforcement shall be on each side of the centerline of single openings.
This is applicable to single openings.
Also,

Quote (UG-39(b)(2))

the required reinforcement for each opening in the pair ... shall be summed together and then distributed such that 50% of the sum is
located between the two openings
is applicable also to a pair of adjacent openings.
So, are you pretending that only a group of two adjacent openings (not a single one, not three or more, not in a flat head) can be designed with asymmetric reinforcements?

My case is of two opening on F&D head.
