Welcome to Eng-Tips! Remember that more specific questions get more specific replies. Take the time to type a bit more. Are you asking about Section VIII Div. 1, Div. 2, or Div. 3?

RE: 2015 ASME Sec VIII.

Yes, ASME Sec VIII Division 1

Only thing I found and will be using is UW-35

Thank you

RE: 2015 ASME Sec VIII.

UW-35 and UW-36 cover visual acceptance criteria for welds. Keep in mind these are minimum requirements and really don't have much teeth. How does an Inspector verify welds are "sufficiently free" of coarse ripples, overlap, abrupt ridges, etc... You will notice there is no mention of pinholes or porosity in UW-35 and UW-36, however if you try to ship product with those visible defects you can probably expect to get an angry phone call from your customer.

Good manufacturer's have their own acceptance criteria that exceeds Code requirements. For example, some manufacturers do not permit any overlap and I can't think of any who permit visible pinholes or porosity.

Hi,
everything depends on the type of material, so you should first specify the type of material. Once that is defined then you can start looking into specifics.

Best of luck!

Correct, but UW-38 does.
