HSS steel column fixed base plate design
HSS steel column fixed base plate design
(OP)
any one can please provide the excel sheet for designing the HSS (Squre Hollow Section) steel column fixed base plate and anchor bolt design or any reference from code ?
is there any difference in design procedure between HSS fixed base plate and I section fixed base plate design ??
i have I section fixed Column base plate excel sheet can i use that for HSS base plate design ??

RE: HSS steel column fixed base plate design
Consider posting your wide flange spreadsheet. That way, we can scan it for suitability with HSS.
I like to debate structural engineering theory -- a lot. If I challenge you on something, know that I'm doing so because I respect your opinion enough to either change it or adopt it.

Take a look through AISC design guide 1. The differences between base plates for wide flange shapes and tube steel are explained there. As KootK explained, it's primarily the base plate cantilever.

RE: HSS steel column fixed base plate design
I only found the difference between HSS and wide flange column base plate design is yielding limit (m and n equation) in AISC design guide 1.
This design guide recommend the m = 0.95d and n=0.95 b for HSS column, remaining design procedure will be same as wide flange base plate design.
The only m and n value will be change in excel sheet other formulation will be same Am I correct please confirm?
