Torsion in steel beam for a Pipe T post

Torsion in steel beam for a Pipe T post

(OP)
Hi,

The picture given below is a t post with load of 5 kn.
If no stiffeners are not provided in the beam, then the load is transferred from the beam to column as torsion.
I dont want to design for torsion, is there any other way i could check the beam capacity.

RE: Torsion in steel beam for a Pipe T post

I think that transfer will occur via weak axis bending in the beam web rather than torsion unless the load will be off centre. I think that you'll want the stiffeners when all is said and done.

I like to debate structural engineering theory -- a lot. If I challenge you on something, know that I'm doing so because I respect your opinion enough to either change it or adopt it.
