0.6 factor for wind loading

0.6 factor for wind loading

0.6 factor for wind loading

(OP)
I read in an online webinar that the DP for windows is calculated by applying a 0.6 factor to the ASCE-7 equation.
I wanted to verify this. I failed to find this factor in the ASCE-7. Could someone clarify this for me plaese?
Thanks

RE: 0.6 factor for wind loading

ASCE 7-10 wind loads are defined at an ultimate level, similarly to seismic forces. If you are designing to ASD, or are using doors and windows that have been load rated for ASD level winds, the 0.6 is the conversion factor to move LRFD to ASD. If you look at section 2.4.1 (ASD load combinations) you will see the same 0.6W used there.

RE: 0.6 factor for wind loading

What does DP stand for? I feel so stupid.

ajh1 Thank you so much. That's something I feared. Gosh I never use ASD. That's a system that we were brainwashed to scorn when I was an undergrad, though I know it is so much easier and quick.
SteelPE, that's "design pressure".

RE: 0.6 factor for wind loading

ASD certainly has its place still...wood and masonry.

The new code update appears to have caused a bit of confusion with lots of people.
