How many PQRs are required

How many PQRs are required

How many PQRs are required

(OP)
Dear all,

Is there any paragraph that we can refer to in ASME Section IX about how many PQRs need to be prepared for tanks ?

In other words, what is the parameters need to be considered in making separate PQRs. Material thicknesses ? P and group number ? SMAW , SAW, FCAW, GTAW, GTAW + SMAW ? With or without backing strip ?

Syah

RE: How many PQRs are required

Have read through Section IX?

Best regards - Al

RE: How many PQRs are required

It lists critical variables, every time you change them (outside of allowed range) then you need another PQR.
Alloy group, weld method, and backing would each require new ones.
With thickness you have some allowed range.
Read up.

I hope your welding guy is back from vacation soon.

RE: How many PQRs are required

Everything you mentioned is an Essential Variable, except thickness [within the 2T limits], so every one will engender a new WPS. And each WPS will require at least one PQR to support it. That is why they are called "Essential Variables".
